portfolios: Cricket and Joy
Cricket and Joy is a self-published, limited edition, spiral bound artist's book made in 2026 in response to the 1998 photo of the same name by Laura Calfee. Sized at 8.25x5.25" with 46 pages, the book uses original photos, found photos, generated photos, and text to reimagine Calfee's insect and Joy soap to include my beloved chihuahua named Cricket, crickets playing cricket, crickets finding joy and Joy, and everyone's favorite church hymn from the 90s musical comedy, Sister Act 2, with incremental stops in between. Each page spread embraces the concept of redefining both "cricket" and "joy," sometimes poetic and profound, other times humorous and absurd, but always "true" in its reflection of a new visual record.
